Rhymings of a Disintegrating Mind

circuit board circuit board
Since I was born the world has changed
And largely due to me
Yet all was not so rosy
Before I had CDs
At first my size was awful
My functions poor indeed
And those without a PhD
Were better off to read

I worked from large transistors
And poorly made cir - cuits
But worst of all, the first OS
Just made me want to retch
Graphics – never heard of them!
On top of that, no sound
Black and white, a beep or two
That’s all that was in town
Then one day along came Bill
A bonifide trendsetter
He gave me Windows® to look through
So I could do much better
Suddenly I’m on the rise
With innovations, taking strides
Faster, smarter, large hard drive
And my new size a source of pride

Today I really rule the roost
With gadgets by the score
Scanners, cameras, DVDs
Printers and much more
I race along in giga-hertz
And make my own CDs
But best of all, with slim line screens
It’s goodbye to drab TVs
Some call me names, but here I am
And I intend to stay
You need me for the airways
For banking and your day
No power, no phone or gambling
Can work unless I slave
So spare a thought for PCs
And give us all a wave

With USB and voice control
My future is assured
A touch more speed, all glitches shed
I’ll soon be on the Board
Then on to cooking breakfast
And brewing up champagne
Until one day you’ll wake to find
I’m smarter than your brain
With all this fancy hardware
Is software keeping pace?
You bet it is, and as for games
You’ll fight in 3D space
Fit me with a modem
And surf the worldwide web
Or if the phone bill’s priceless
There’s always Word® instead

Despite my newfound freedom
Some problems still remain
Drivers drive me crazy
And graphics, they’re insane
I fear the dreaded virus
Scant memory and Support
Those endless blasted upgrades
A bane I would abort
real or surreal..?
Now let’s think outside the box and consider life from a computer’s point of view...
